Est\u00e1 situada entre las provincias de Granada y Almer\u00eda, siendo el macizo monta\u00f1oso de mayor altitud de toda Europa occidental, despu\u00e9s de los Alpes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Su altitud m\u00e1xima se alcanza en el pico Mulhac\u00e9n, de 3479 m sobre el nivel del mar. En 1986 fue declarada Reserva de la Biosfera por la Unesco, en 1989 una ampl\u00edsima \u00e1rea de este macizo monta\u00f1oso fue declarada parque natural y en 1999 una gran parte del mismo pas\u00f3 a ser considerado parque nacional1\u200b por sus valores bot\u00e1nicos, paisaj\u00edsticos y naturales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Sierra Nevada.
