Est\u00e1 situado en la sierra de la Contraviesa y en la parte suroriental de la Alpujarra Granadina y su t\u00e9rmino municipal comprende desde las alturas del Cerraj\u00f3n de Murtas hasta casi la costa mediterr\u00e1nea. El municipio est\u00e1 formado por los n\u00facleos de Murtas, Coj\u00e1yar y Mecina Tedel, as\u00ed como diversos diseminados.
