A 31 de diciembre de 2019 contaba con 11805 habitantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Est\u00e1 situado en la cuenca del <strong>r\u00edo Almanzora<\/strong>, al norte de la provincia, en un paisaje condicionado por la escasez de agua. Por ello existe un marcado contraste entre las zonas regadas por los arroyos y las huertas y el entorno formado por lomas secas, estepas y algunos almendros. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ha sido un centro comercial local desde el siglo XIX, lo que le confiere una personalidad especial y al mismo tiempo le ha dado cierto aire se\u00f1orial y una apariencia de riqueza y prosperidad. Muestra de ello son unas pocas casas de aspecto burgu\u00e9s y un aspecto f\u00edsico evidentemente cuidado.
